Art Immersion Day
Up to four students in seventh or eighth grade are selected from each participating district to attend Arts Immersion Day on Wednesday, February 26, 2013. Students watch a play, and then participate in workshops related to the arts. This year's play is called, "The Drowsy Chaperone". Following is a description of the plot:
The musical, The Drowsy Chaperone, depicts the story of a young star named Janet Van de Graaff, who is faced with a very difficult decision. She can either give up her successful stage career for a man she hardly knows or continue with her career and lose her love forever. The narrator of the story, who is never named and called “Man in Chair,” sits in a chair in his living room while the musical, The Drowsy Chaperone, comes to life in his apartment. The Drowsy Chaperone is Man in Chair‟s favorite musical, which is why he plays his record of the musical to the audience. As the story progresses, we learn why Man in Chair loves the musical The Drowsy Chaperone so much and why he believes it is better to have lived than left.

Southern Lakes Anthology Art Contest
Each year, students in participating districts can submit black and white artwork, cartoons, or illustrations that accompany writing. Every spring, Whitewater TAG members select a theme for the following year's anthology. The theme for 2012-2013 is "Make a Mark". Entry deadlines are set by each school's gifted and talented coordinators. The top 24 submissions from each district are judged at a Whitewater TAG meeting in January. This year's judging day is Tuesday, January 29, 2013. The entries are scored using a rubric, and the best are chosen to be included in the anthology. The published artists are invited to a recognition ceremony held on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in the Young Auditorium where they receive a complimentary copy of the anthology.
